You’re Not Raising a Child. You’re Raising an Adult

By Alex Lesage

A lot of parents carry this question quietly: “What happens when I’m gone?”

It sounds like love. But if we’re not careful… it turns into limitation.

Because kids don’t just learn how to do things. They learn what we believe they’re capable of.

If the message is “You need me for everything” — they don’t just stay supported. They start to believe they can’t function without you.

Some kids will always need support. That’s real. But there’s a difference between needing support and being raised to believe you can’t do anything without it.

Small decisions matter. Small responsibilities matter. Letting them struggle a bit… matters. That’s where capacity gets built.

Because at the end of the day… we’re not raising kids. We’re raising future adults.

No Shame. No Pity. No Cure Needed. Alex
