It’s Okay to Grieve the Version of Parenting You Imagined

By Alex Lesage

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t what you’re dealing with…

it’s letting go of what you thought it would look like.

The one you saw in those sweet Chicken Soup stories.
The one where tantrums had tidy morals,
where bedtime ended in hugs, not breakdowns,
and where love felt like enough.

You’re not weak for missing that dream.
You’re not selfish for wishing it had been easier.
You’re not ungrateful for noticing the gap between what you hoped for
and what actually arrived.

Grief isn’t rejection.
It’s just mourning what never got to live.
And sometimes, it’s the first step toward fully embracing what did.

This path might look nothing like the one you pictured.
But it’s still a real, beautiful, and hard-earned kind of love.

So it still counts.

And so do you.

Diamonds are made under pressure.

No Shame. No Pity. No Cure Needed.
