When the Parent Is Neurodivergent Too

By Alex Lesage

A lot of parents raising neurodivergent kids are neurodivergent themselves.

And no one really talks about that.

You’re helping your child regulate…
while still learning how to regulate yourself.

Trying to stay patient.
Trying to stay consistent.
Trying to hold it together when your own system is overloaded.

At the same time.

That’s not small.

That’s a double load most people don’t see.

Because on the outside, it just looks like parenting.

But underneath it…

you’re managing your own triggers
while guiding someone else through theirs

And that takes a level of awareness most people never have to develop.

You don’t always get it right.

Some days are messy.
Some moments slip.

That doesn’t mean you’re failing.

It means you’re doing two jobs at once.

And you’re still showing up.

You don’t have to be perfect.

You just have to keep showing up.

No Shame. No Pity. No Cure Needed.
